Description

The 1.7 Meter Class is a brand new design with roots based on previously proven concepts within the AC Class, IOM Class, EC12 Class and the Marblehead Class. The design concept of the 1.7 Meter boat began in late 2007. The goal focused on a very fast, easy to sail, competitive, medium weight, large boat, which could be easily transported. The 1.7 Meter Class Rule is not one-design, nor is it a development class. It is a boat which is designed to a tight "box rule" which eliminates formulas, defines parameter limits and permits some skipper latitude in the design and construction. This boat can be built from scratch, using your own design. Or you can purchase a design. You can also purchase an available kit containing a hull and major components.

The hull length is 68 inches which is based on a modification of the AC class. This is the derivation of the 1.7 Meter name. The best attributes of classes such as, the AC, IOM, EC12 and Marblehead Classes have been used as a basis in the areas of stability, construction, sail plan and aesthetics. A half-inch round carbon tube is used for the mast. A 5:1 gearbox with aluminum gear provides the necessary winch torque. The hull can be fabricated from carbon fiber or strip planked from balsa if you want to build your own boat. The Class Rule allows three rigs. The sail plan is more in sync with a full size boat than an R/C boat. The Main for the A−rig has a 150 mm square top. This offers a very modern look! The jib has no roach which is typical of a full size boat. The 1.7 Meter boat has excellent handling, great speed and a very wide range of wind condition capability.
