2023 DF95 Region 4 Championship Regatta (R4CR)

The Miami Valley Model Yacht club was privileged to host the 2023 DF95 Region 4 Regatta at Deer Meadow Park, in Moraine, Ohio on June 10 & 11, 2023. Competitors traveled from 6 other states to join our local skippers.

On Friday, the day before the races, 15 skippers met at the pond at 3:00 PM for practice. Sean Fidler, USA DF95 Region 4 Director, gave a great presentation on DF95 tuning followed by one-on-one tuning help and practice racing until 6:30 PM.

On Saturday morning seeding races were run to populate two fleets. A mobile, radio-controlled mark, designed a built by Jim Miller, became one end of the starting line. It eliminated the need to go out on the pond to change the course. Sixteen heats were run on Saturday. There were many close finishes, and lots of “good race” compliments. By the end of the day Tony Gonsalves and Steve Landeau were in the top two positions and held on to them to the end. Skippers met at a local cafeteria on Saturday evening for a good visit.

On Sunday there was a little more wind from the Northeast. By 11:00 AM the predicted rain arrived forcing us to quit long before our planned afternoon ending time. What a day for our drought to end! A total of 10 races were run using the Promotion/Relegation system. Beautiful, framed shadowbox trophies, crafted by Dave Eckard, were awarded to the five top finishers. Four servos donated by Charles LeMahieu, of Dragon Sailing North America were awarded by random drawing.
