2023 ROAR AT THE SHORE EC12 REGATTA
By Michael Campbell
05/20/2023 The Roar at the Shore Regatta is the second regatta in the Colonial cup series. Skippers were greeted with the threat of rain and light winds and the weatherman did not disappoint. At times, the rain came down in buckets.
There were 8 skippers on the line today which allowed the RD to use a more challenging course for the entire day. After lunch the RD was able to use a much longer course due to the wind shift to the SE. On to the racing: Jamie Betz #34 had hot thumbs right out the gate peeling off three 1sts in a row, followed closely by Dave Ramos #05. These two separated themselves from the fleet and by lunch the winner was going to be either #34 or #05. In the end, the battle continued till the 11th race when Jamie’s boat developed an issue that could not be repaired pondside. At the end it was a 1-point win for Betz #34 with a score of 15 followed by Ramos #05 with a score of 16. In 3rd place was Challoner #93 with a score of 37. In 4th place was Graf #74 with a score of 38. A total of 12 heats were completed under trying conditions.
I wish to give a shout out to the Committee, Pro Skip Hall, Head Chick Judy Bonanno, Assistant scorer Bill Sysyn, and RD Mike Campbell.
