2023 T-37 National Championship Regatta (NCR)
By Allan Van Ness
The Pacific Northwest Model Yacht Club hosted the 2023 T-37 National Championship in Seattle, Washington, at the Seattle Yacht Club on Portage Bay, on October 7th. The weather was unseasonably warm, in the mid-eighties, but the winds were light and shifting until early afternoon after which we enjoyed a nice 5 to 8 mph northerly. Twelve sailors completed twelve races by 3PM and a good time was had by all.
Peter Conze continued his dominance by winning the T-37 Class Championship for the fifth time in six years. The NCR was not held in 2022, so Peter has been the T-37 champion for the last six years. That's excellent sailing. Quite an accomplishment! This year, Dan Mathews finished in second place followed by our Region Six Representative, Dan Schier in third place.
A big thank you goes to our Principal Race Officer, Philip Hubbell and his race committee consisting of Maryhelen Johnson and Bradley Smith, who efficiently and competently recorded the finishes. A special thanks goes to the Seattle Yacht Club for co-hosting the event, providing a mark setting/rescue boat, marks, floats to sail from, and other race equipment.
Though we had hoped for better wind, the 2023 T-37 NCR was a fun and successful event enjoyed by all.
