The 2024 Soling 1M R7CR was held in Punta Gorda, Florida hosting 17 skippers from the Southwest Florida region. Winds were non-existent on both mornings of the regatta resulting in 1 ½ - 2 hour delays getting started. However, on both days, the wind did pick up in the afternoons. Don Ouimette brought out his "GPS buoys" that served as the starting line, windward mark/offset and a downwind gate. Between races, if there was a wind shift, one button click on a laptop rotated the entire course to keep everything square to the wind. This turned out to be a lifesaver on Saturday when the winds were shifting all over the place, resulting in about a dozen course changes that were made with no race delays at all.

We ended up with twenty races despite the considerable loss of race time due to the lack of wind in the mornings. The Brawner system proved again to be a fast and efficient heat management system. Sunday afternoon sailing was the best of the regatta with tight competition down to the last races.
