On Saturday, October 4, 2025, the Queen City Model Yacht Club hosted its annual DragonFlite Fall Regatta at Pineville Lake Park in Pineville, NC. The event brought together 15 competitors from five American Model Yachting Association Region 3 clubs for a day of remote-control sailing. The fall weather featured partly cloudy Carolina blue skies. Temperatures started in the low 60s, rising to the low 80s by the end of the day. Winds were light and variable in the morning, around 1 to 3 mph and increased to 2 to 5 mph in the afternoon. Our Race Director Bob Green got us started with the competitors meeting followed by Howard Baugh's playing of the United States National Anthem. Seven races were completed before the lunch break. Mike Saindon held a slim lead with 10 points, while Martin Bowers and Jack Wubbe were tied for second with 13 points. Martin Bowers dominated the afternoon, winning four of the eight races. His strong performance gave him a first-place finish with 25 points. Jack Wubbe edged out Mike Saindon in the final race to secure second place with 41 points, leaving Mike with 42 points for third. Our Race Director, Bob Green, did a great job of keeping the fleet on task. Bob and the fleet also kept our scorekeepers Marie, Sheryl and Julie very busy. Thank you to all our local skippers and those who travelled to sail with us. It was good to see old friends and make some new ones. Thank you to all who volunteered their time to make this regatta a success. Also, a special thank you to the Pineville Parks and Recreation Department for allowing us to use this beautiful facility to sail our toy boats.
