The AMYA Board of Directors believes that improving safety for our sailors is critical. They have agreed to fund a new one-time Club Safety Stipend program.
The AMYA Club must acquire safety equipment in 2026 to be available at their pond/sailing venue whenever they sail model boats. The program requirements are included below. The stipend is to cover all or a portion of the cost of safety equipment purchased on or after the program starts April 1, 2026. There is no specific restriction on the types of safety equipment - we'll know it when we see it. But it includes first aid kits and first aid supplies, signage for first responders and purchase or rental of defibrillators (AEDs).
The Club applies for the stipend by submitting to the AMYA Treasurer copies of receipts, photos of the equipment by itself and photos of the equipment at the sailing venue. A statement that the equipment will be at the sailing venue when the club has model sailing activities is also required.
The maximum funding is $500 per club. The program is limited to a total AMYA expenditure of $10,000. When the funds run out, the program is finished - first come, first served.
Remember - there is a lot you can do to improve safety at the pond that does not cost anything. Planning and communicating does not cost anything but can pay huge dividends.
