2023 Santa Barbara NCR

The 2023 National Championship Regatta was held over two days September 16 - 17 at Bridgeway Lakes in West Sacramento. Elk Grove Model Yacht Club and Sacramento Model Yacht club again combined to offer an 8-day Sacramento Sail Week consisting of 4 National Championship Regattas, the first of the four was the Santa Barbara.
Twelve skippers gathered beneath clear blue skys amid temperatures in the mid-80s and 6 -10 knot winds, predominately from South to Southwest, that on occasion gusted to 16. A total of 30 heats were logged over the 2-day span. Without exception, all skippers showed true sportsmanship and congeniality. Protests were handled amicably between skippers, and during the awards ceremony the fine character of all was on display.
Events like this require a boatload of contributions from many, many people. They are all appreciated, but a few deserve a special Thank You. A special thanks to Dan Robinson for rescuing errant boats, for grilling the best hot dogs, and effectively managing the team of volunteers on the food committee. Another special thanks to Bob Buckley for producing such finely crafted trophies. They are unique and useful pen sets that will be useful indefinitely. And without doubt we owe special thanks to Charles Witcher, who without fail provided the rescue boat, which came in for repeated use.
