2025 Dead Crab RC Laser Regatta June 22, 2025

Regatta Report The third leg of the 2025 Liberty RC Laser league was held at Corinthian YC of Cape May and graciously hosted by regatta chairman, Jim Forrester and his wife Amy. With the Barnegat Bay big boat weekend sailing this time of year, our RC Laser fleet was reduced to 14 skippers, a bit down from last year. We need to be careful in our 2026 scheduling so that we don't conflict with big boat priorities up north. That said, we were able to amass a talented fleet with skippers coming from Connecticut and Florida to nudge a few jersey boys out of the top five. The day belonged to Red Bank's Frank Scalisi, who grabbed seven bullets out of the 12 races we sailed. We even changed the location of the race course twice after sailing on the N-S course before the lunch break, but that didn't slow Frank down at all. Frank ended the day with a 4th and a 2nd as his two throw-outs.
Early B-sail winds we're from the WSW and we were able to get in three before the lunch break. At this point Frank Scalisi was one point up on Jim Flach and eight points up on John Parker, who grabbed a bullet in the second race. Branning, Chalder, Bonanno followed in that order. To startup anew, RC changed the course to the north dock as the SW breeze began to fill. The A-sails came out for the early afternoon races. That choice was short-lived as the sea breeze freshened for B-sails and limited windward legs. Time to move the course! After nine races (no throw-outs counted) Frank, Jim and Dave were closely followed by Glenn Chalder, sailing consistently near the front of the fleet, and Bob Tallman, who won two races in that stretch to keep it interesting.
For the final three races we went back to the mainland shore to finish out the regatta under B-sails. Congratulations to Frank Scalise, Jim Flach and Glenn Chalder, the top three.
A huge thanks to Jim Forrester, our Regatta Chairman, and the hospitality of the Corinthian YC of Cape May. Efficient chase boat and buoy duty: Jake Gublo and Conrad Nuss. Scoring: Amy Forrester; Vice Commodore, Roberta Nuss and Rear Commodore, Cheryl Gublo. And, of course, Judy Bonanno for being a terrific race manager, electronic score-keeper, and photographer.
