Hosted by the Miami Valley Model Yacht Club
Moraine, Ohio : June 2026
The Miami Valley Model Yacht Club proudly hosted the 2026 V32 National Championship this past weekend at beautiful Deer Meadow Park in Moraine, Ohio. A fleet of 13 skippers made the trip to compete for the national title, traveling from all across Ohio and 2 from Texas to take part in a full day of competitive and good spirited racing.
Despite a forecast that promised challenges, the fleet was greeted with light and variable winds ranging from 0 to 8 mph. Race Director David Echard kept the regatta moving with steady hands and sharp race management. Thanks to his efficiency : and the patience of the skippers : the fleet impressively completed 18 races in a single day, a testament to both the RD's skill and the sailors' determination.
Four different skippers managed to take race wins throughout the day, showing just how competitive and balanced the fleet was. At midday, the group broke for a well earned lunch featuring Chick fil A sandwiches, chips, and cookies, before heading right back to the water to finish out the remaining heats.
After 18 races, the standings told the story of a hard fought championship:
- 1st Place : Scott Rowland, earning his 6th V32 National Championship title
- 2nd Place : Rob Hill, a four time V32 National Champion himself
- 3rd Place : Robert Bottenhorn, rounding out a very strong podium
In addition to the championship trophies, the skippers voted on a special honor : the Sportsmanship Award : which was proudly awarded to Eric Weber for his positive attitude, fairness, and support of fellow competitors throughout the day.
A fun twist followed: a random draw from finishers 4th through 13th determined the winner of the light hearted "Nearly the 2026 V32 National Champion" Award, which went to Brian Pace, much to the amusement of the fleet.
After the trophy presentation, the group enjoyed lakeside pizza and wrapped up the evening with an AMYA, Soling 1M, and V32 trivia challenge. Past AMYA President and current Soling 1M Class Secretary Mike Wyatt proved his deep knowledge of the AMYA and its classes by winning the trivia contest and taking home the top prize.
The Miami Valley Model Yacht Club extends its thanks to all skippers who traveled to compete, to Race Director David Echard for his outstanding work, and to the volunteers who helped make the event smooth, friendly, and memorable. With great camaraderie, tight racing, and a full day of fun, the 2026 V32 Nationals will be remembered as one of the most enjoyable championships in recent years.
