Grab an Oar and Row
Thought of the Day from Dan, After being involved with the AMYA for around 4 years I have noticed 2 common themes on how people decide to join the AMYA. One group is “What is in it for me?” This group just looks at their own personal benefit or gain. Maybe join for the magazine, maybe join because they want to sail in a regional or nationals. The second group is a group that sees that they are supporting the greater good for model sailing in the US. They see the AMYA as an organization helping all the clubs and classes, provides a centralized calendar of events, provides free web presence for clubs, free online registration, publishes a magazine, sets standards for model sailing, attempts to grow and promote model sailing , financially contributes to regionals and nationals for all classes, provides affordable insurance for clubs that need it. It is my hope that model sailors see the benefits of a National Organization and can support the AMYA with your membership, time and money for the activity we all love and enjoy for a variety of reasons. Please Join if you never have or keep renewing if you want to be supportive of growing model sailing in the United States. Model sailing is such a great activity of getting us out of the house and interacting with other people. If everyone could get 1 new person started per year our fleets would double in size. If you have some spare time help your local club or class secretary, that will have a big impact also. My hope is the AMYA can keep giving people a reason to stay involved and want to be part of something bigger than themselves. If you are in the boat might as well grab an oar and help out! happy sailing, Dan Shier
